Most women would agree that one of the hardest aspects of starting a fitness program is actually finding the time to do it!
With all of the demands placed upon us by family, work, and various social commitments, self care often is forced to take a back seat. So, when you finally decide to take the plunge and hire a Personal Trainer to come to your home to help you get in shape, it’s important that you get the most out of every session.
Here are a few of my favorite tips to make sure you maximize your workouts!
1. Be Prepared!
Get your sneakers on, and grab your water and your towel. Make sure you’re wearing comfortable clothes and you have removed any large pieces of jewelry. Put your hair up, tie it back, or find a hat. Leave the dishes. End the call. Do not click “check out”. You have dedicated this time to your workout, and you should respect it as such. Most Personal Trainers schedule on the hour, and the clock starts to tick when they arrive, not when you finish your last-minute chores. Don’t cheat yourself out of 5, 10 even 15 minutes of good health because you aren’t ready.
2. Check Your Space
Where are you planning to work out? If you’re planning on using a family room or playroom, particularly if it’s in the basement, check and make sure the area is clear. It doesn’t have to be spotless, but you will want to have enough space for you and your Trainer to move freely. If you are planning an outdoor workout, make sure your lawn or patio is dry and free of obstacles or any…surprises from pets.
3. Pets
And, speaking of pets…Secure your animals! Many Personal Trainers, like myself, are animal lovers and welcome a friendly greeting from the family dog. As a mom, I’m not going to think twice about dog hair, slobber, or any inappropriate sniffing! If your 75 lb fur-covered meat missile comes barreling at me as soon as I walk through your door, I’m probably just as excited as he is.
However, not all Personal Trainers (or all dogs) are created equal. Make sure your pets are happy and secured out of the way of your workout space. Some people are nervous around larger breeds, and some dogs are nervous around strangers. Things will be smoother all around if your pets have a private space for the duration of your workout.
Hiring an In-Home Trainer can be an awesome way to jump-start your fitness journey. Just a few minutes of advance preparation can take your workout from good to great!
